Fertility Reflexology

Around one in six couples trying to conceive experience problems and it can commonly take two to three years to become pregnant.

There are many different causes of sub-fertility, such as lifestyle factors or hormone imbalances and more couples are now being diagnosed with unexplained infertility.

I believe that fertility reflexology can support an individual or couple on their fertility journey. Reflexology is immensely relaxing, helping to reduce tension and encourage a sense of wellbeing. I use reflexology to work on the body’s hormone or endocrine system (often the cause of problems conceiving) by focusing on the reflexes related to specific areas of imbalance, such as the pituitary (the ‘master’ of all the hormone glands) or the thyroid.

Practising reflexology as a holistic therapy, treating the person as a whole and considering all lifestyle factors ensures each treatment plan is tailored to the individual. I plan sessions for particular times of the month as there is a view that this can aid ovulation.

I am also a member of the Association of Reproductive Reflexologists (ARR). Reproductive reflexology is the study and treatment of male and female reproductive and fertility conditions using reflexology. It is a specialist therapy that has been pioneered and carefully developed over 20 years by Barbara Scott. The therapy can be applied either as a stand-alone treatment to support natural conception or alongside conventional fertility treatments, such as IVF. As a member of the ARR, I am specially trained to work alongside these types of cycles to enhance the effectiveness of the medication.

Reflexology is looked on favourably by gynaecologists and obstetricians and many recommend it. Dr Gowri Motha, an obstetrician, is a great advocate in her book, Gentle Birth Method – which I recommend to many of my clients.
